History

MONIER is the quality leader in roofing. It is a brand that has stood for know-how and experience for many decades. Here are some highlights from our company history:

1919

Redland originated as Redhill Tile Company. In November the first concrete roof tiles were produced

1946

Change of the company name to Redland Tiles

1949

Expansion to South Africa and Australia

1951

Start of Redland operations in Malaysia

1954

Acquisition of a majority stake holding in Braas in Germany
Start of production at the Heusenstamm plant

1955

Redland becomes a public company

1958

Patent application for the Frankfurter Pfanne 

1965

Intensification of roof tile R&D by founding Redland Research and Development Ltd.
Foundation of Monier-Raymond Concrete Tile Co Inc in the US

1966

Foundation of Bramac in Austria by Braas and Ebenseer Betonwerke

1969

Redland acquires Monier Ltd. in Australia
Start of further expansion in Southeast Asia

1970

Foundation of a Monier and CPAC joint venture in Thailand

1972

Start of a phase of strong expansion in several European countries, which continues for several years

1973

Foundation of the Nippon Monier joint venture in Japan

1974

Monier starts a joint venture in Indonesia

1975

Monier starts operations in Malaysia

1976

Foundation of Redland Iberia S.A.

1979

Expansion of Redland to the US

1984

Bramac starts to expand in Southeastern European countries with the foundation of Hungarian VÁÉV-Bramac K.f.t.

1987

Redland sells most parts of Monier to Equity Corporation Tasman, but keeps the concrete roof tile business with the exception of the Australian entities
Start of the US roof tile business with company name Monier, renamed MonierLifetile in 1997

1990

Braas acquires Schiedel Group, the leading producer of chimney systems in Europe

1993

Foundation of Braas Scandinavia AB as a result of several acquisitions in the Nordic countries during the years before
Foundation of Braas Polska, Poland

1995

Schiedel expands to Poland
Foundation of OOO Braas DSK-1, a roofing joint venture in Russia

1996

Foundation of the Redland Braas Building Group
Redland reorganised its roofing business by merging its two well-known subsidiaries with the brands Braas and Redland

1997

Lafarge acquires Redland. As a consequence it takes over the roofing part of the business, which was held solely by Redland, and becomes a majority stakeholder in Braas
Foundation of the Roofing Division of Lafarge, which heads the entire worldwide roofing business under the name Lafarge Roofing
Expansion in Turkey and several countries in Central Europe

2000

Lafarge acquires the remaining stakes of Braas and now owns 100%

2001

Lafarge Roofing acquires Klöber and Swedish metal pantile manufacturer Kami
Start of heavy expansion entering new countries and extending the global plant network to more than 200 plants

2002

Expansion of business activities in the USA with construction of a new concrete roof tile plant in Denver, Colorado
Launch of a joint venture in clay roof tile production in Thailand

2004

Opening of first Indian concrete roof tile plant in Bangalore
Acquisition of chimney manufacturers Rite-Vent (UK) and Bemal (Belgium)

2005

Building began on the seventh concrete roof tile plant in China
Purchase and refitting of concrete roof tile plant in Krasnodar, Russia
Foundation of the joint venture “Marulelo Roofing Solutions” in South Africa to produce and market low-cost housing solutions

2006

Schiedel steps into the US market with the acquisition of a stake in Earthcore Inc.
Lafarge Roofing acquires HausProfi Group
Acquisition of Kulu, the third largest concrete tile producer in South Africa

2007

Lafarge sells Lafarge Roofing to PAI partners, who hold a 65% majority stake; Lafarge keeps the remaining 35%

Acquisition of Hausprofi

2008

The former roofing division renames its business MONIER and starts operations as an independent company

2009

Financial restructuring successfully completed: former senior lenders are the new owners of the MONIER Group Redland celebrates its 90th anniversary, also marking the founding of MONIER

2010

Monier Group strengthens presence in South-Eastern Europe by acquiring 100 % ownership of Bramac.

2011

Monier Group strengthens presence in South-Eastern Europe by acquiring 100 % ownership of Bramac.
